Erykah Badu - Window Seat

The meaning behind Window Seat..

The idea is that everyone else was wearing clothes and she got killed because she was naked. The people couldn’t handle something that was different. “Groupthink”

The video was about freeing your mind, not being afraid of expressing your individuality, and how people try to "assassinate" your individuality when you do something different from the group. Her getting naked isn't conforming to how everyone else uses nudity in the media today. There was nothing sexual about the video. She stripped to express liberation and did it in her own unique way.

Clearly the Kennedy, grassy knoll element is present throughout the video and in the last moments we are transported to that seminal moment in American history. With a spoken voice-over by Erykah Badu we learn how Badu feels to those who are “quick to assassinate what they do now know,” possibly referring to the media, but more likely the state of the nation as a whole. She talks about the cowardice of the herd mentality and the fears upon the individual to sit up and exact change. The meaning of Window Seat is clear, live your life for who you are and don’t be afraid to break free from the constraints of the accepted norms of reality.

Pharrell speaks on Erykah Badu’s video, which I’m gonna proclaim to be the best of 2010.
